Why the name Artemisia

Artemisia stems from the name Artemis (Ancient Greek: Ἄρτεμις). Artemis, one of the most revered ancient Greek deities, was the Hellenic "goddess of the hunt, wild animals, childbirth, and protector of girls, bringing and relieving disease in women; she often was depicted as a huntress carrying a bow and arrows."[Oxford]

She was the "guardian and defender of young girls everywhere," and for us this incredible duty of Artemis is still relevant today. At Artemisia we strive to do just the same- to channel our inner goddess in the name of safeguarding our girls.

What is our mission?

Knowledge is power and our arrows are information. Running with this metaphor, we organize our gathered information into campaigns, which are then launched by our bows out to the public in full force.

Together we want to raise awareness on women's issues- especially shedding light on the injustice and crime that continue to hold women back. We want to break the barrier between everything that is happening over here and "over there." And so, Artemisia strives to act as a liaison and bridge between our passionate community and some pretty awesome organizations that are already out there taking care of our girls.

What are our values

We believe that every women should have access to health care, safety, education and legal representation. Furthermore, every woman has agency and autonomy in this world and should be able to make her own choices when it comes to her life. We are especially convinced that the power of sexual and reproductive education along with economic skills can be tools that greatly empower women... because knowledge is power!
